GALIANO OCEANFRONT CABINS

LOCATION: Galiano Island is one of the Gulf Islands between Vancouver and Vancouver Island. Two to three ferries per day run from Vancouver's Tsawwassen Terminal (about 45 min/trip) and several ferries run from Swartz Bay on Vancouver Island to Sturdies Bany on Galiano Island.

LOCATION ON ISLAND: Galiano Cabins (Skheria & Quelus) are located about 20 km. north of the ferry dock at Sturdies Bay. The main community is located at the south end of the island near the ferry terminal.

ASPECT: The cabins are on separate lots and they face West across Trincomali Channel toward Salt Spring and Vancouver Island. The property decends spectacularly to the waterfront. The water drops sharply to approximately 90 feet deep just a few feet from the shore. The cabins are surrounded by large trees and, therefore, provide habitat for viewing eagles, hummingbirds, raccoons, weasels, mink and deer. Sea Lions and Orca are often seen from the deck.

CABINS: Skheria is a 3 bedroom panabode design (pre-engineered log) and Quelus is a one bedroom vertical cedar log design. The smaller cabin (Quelus)  has a queen bed in the main floor bedroom, and a doublebed and single futon bed in a high loft.  The size of this cabin limits its suitable to 3 to 4 people. The larger cabin (Skheria)  can sleep up to 9 people (1 queen, 2 doubles, 3 twin beds). Both cabins have full bathrooms, kitchens, living rooms, decks, barbecues and are supplied with linen and dishes. An outdoor hot tub is available for guest use.

BEACHES: There are several beaches on the island including Dionsio Park (Coon Bay) and Montague Park. In addition there are many small beaches that are shown on the maps or that we can tell you about. There is a bay with a beach suitable for launching kayaks about a 3 minute walk from the cabin.

CLIMATE: The climate on Galiano Island is different than that in Vancouver or on Vancouver Island. There is less rainfall during the year and in the summer the conditions are mostly warm and dry. Open fires are not permittedon Galiano from April to October.
.
SHOPS AND RESTAURANTS: All of the stores are located near Sturdies Bay at the South end of the island. There are two grocery stores and a market, with excellent fresh produce available and a limited selection of meat. Fresh fish is sold at the marina during the summer weekends. There is a pub several small restaurants for an evening out. For a list of the restaurants try:     www.galianoisland.com/eating.php.  Several smaller places open up during the summer on the south end of the island. There is one gas station and 2 cash machines.

ACTIVITIES: The island is relatively quiet but there are lots of things to do like swimming, snorkeling, hiking and fishing charters. There are mountain bike and kayak rentals, sailing charters, an excellent 9 hole golf course, art galleries, and craft fairs. Just sitting back and relaxing on the deck is of course one of the best options!  For more information go to www.galianoisland.com/funrecreation.php
